PAINTING FIBERGLASS BOATS

HULL

Degrease the surface with our antisilicone solvent SOLVENTE 102 and then sand it with medium sandpaper (n°120 – 150).

Apply one coat of FIBERGLASS PRIMER (about 12 sqm/l) and then after 8 hours apply two coats of SUPER 505, MARLIN TF, or MAXIMA (minimum consumption: 9 sqm/l per coat), waiting another 8 hours between coats. Sanding the surface between the  coats is not needed. In any case it is advisable to test the adhesion of FIBERGLASS PRIMER on the surface.

On hulls already treated with an antifouling, remove the exhausted layer of antifouling with fine sandpaper or ScotchBrite on wet surface. Let dry, then apply two coats of antifouling as above.

TOPSIDE

Degrease and clean thoroughly the surface. If the surface is in good conditions sand with medium-fine sandpaper and then apply two coats of EVERGLOSS enamel without sanding the surface between the coats as long as they are applied between 6 and 8 hours from each other (at 20° C, if unsure it is better to wait longer and water sand the surface with fine sandpaper before the second coat). However, in order to eliminate any eventual imperfection from the first coat, such as dust or insects, it is advisable to slightly water sand the surface with fine sandpaper (n.240-280).

If the surface happens to be in particularly bad conditions, it is advisable to sand the surface with coarse sand paper (n.100-120), and then adjust any visible defect with our EPOXY FILLER directly on the gel-coat. After that proceed as follows:

  • Apply one coat of EPOPLASTIC AS

  • Fill any further defect with EPOXY  FILLER

  • Sand the surface with medium sandpaper (n.150-180)

  • Apply a second coat of EPOPLASTIC AS

  • Sand the surface with medium-fine sandpaper (n.180-220)

  • Apply two coats of polyurethane enamel EVERGLOSS, possibly water sanding the surface between the two coats using fine sandpaper (n.240-280).

INNER NON VISIBLE PARTS

Sand the surface with coarse sandpaper (n.80-100), and then apply one or two coats of EPOGEL. This product has also the property of stopping the bad smells of new fibreglass.
